July 8, 1947: Roswell Incident Launches UFO Controversy

1947: Days after something shiny crashed in the New Mexico desert, the Roswell Army Air Field issues a press release that says the military has recovered the remains of a "flying disc." Although quickly discounted as erroneous, the announcement lays the groundwork for one of the most enduring UFO stories of all time.

The military's initial press release was straightforward in its handling of the discovery of wreckage by rancher W.W. "Mac" Brazel.

"The many rumors regarding the flying disc became a reality yesterday when the intelligence office of the 509th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force, Roswell Army Air Field, was fortunate enough to gain possession of a disc through the cooperation of one of the local ranchers and the sheriff's office of Chaves County," the press release read.

"The flying object landed on a ranch near Roswell sometime last week. Not having phone facilities, the rancher stored the disc until such time as he was able to contact the sheriff's office, who in turn notified Maj. Jesse A. Marcel of the 509th Bomb Group Intelligence Office. Action was immediately taken and the disc was picked up at the rancher's home. It was inspected at the Roswell Army Air Field and subsequently loaned by Major Marcel to higher headquarters."

The Roswell Daily Record headlined the story "RAAF Captures Flying Saucer on Ranch in Roswell Region," providing a historical artifact that, in retrospect, seems ready-made for fueling an episode of The X-Files.

But press accounts the following day told a much more mundane story: The military had determined the recovered debris to be the wreckage of a weather balloon and related equipment. No flying saucer â€" a term that had just been coined by newspapers to describe the first widely publicized UFO sighting â€" had been found.

While the down-to-earth explanation seemed to settle the issue, the so-called Roswell incident flashed back into the public consciousness three decades later. New interviews with individuals proffering information about the crash, and the 1980 publication of Charles Berlitz's book The Roswell Incident, breathed new life into the story, turning Roswell into a rallying cry for ufologists and true believers.

Rumors of recovered extraterrestrial bodies and a government coverup gained such a foothold in popular culture that the U.S. government took the unusual step of producing two reports in the 1990s that set out to put the matter to rest.

In assembling the massive reports, the Air Force gathered and declassified many documents relating to the Roswell incident. Weighing in at nearly 1,000 pages, The Roswell Report: Fact vs. Fiction in the New Mexico Desert, published in 1994, set out to "tell the Congress, and the American people, everything the Air Force knew about the Roswell claims."

The second government publication, 1997's The Roswell Report: Case Closed (.pdf), came just days shy of the Roswell incident's 50th anniversary. The report said eyewitness accounts tied to the 1947 recovery actually occurred years later, becoming tangled up in time and further strengthening the Roswell incident's hold on the public's imagination.

one of the most famous and perhaps well known photo relating to the roswell incident is the one showing jesse marcell showing the press what simply looks like tin foil and sticks .



now if you never knew what the witnesses said and saw , if you just heard that something crashed and then the military said LOOK ITS JUST A WEATHER BALLOON , HERE IS A PHOTO im sure you would think OH THAT SETTLES IT THEN . just confused people and confused stories NOTHING TO SEE HERE .

but there is far more to this story . maercell went t mack brazils land and found a very large debris field scattered far an wide . now ive seen old downed weather balloons found in new mexico in documentaries . its a balloon all be it not the conventional type ,they are not huge , and not craft , foil and there can be electronics of one description or another . what i saw were weather balloons that essentially just drop from the sky to the ground and pretty much lay where they fall . we are after all not talking about a 747 blown from the sky that will scatter air plane debris into the winds in all directions .

a weather balloon of the descriptions given by the military CAN NOT account for a field strewn with debris . and a weather balloon falling to earth does not require large numbers of soldiers and atleast one large truck to pick up and transport all the debris . 

it also cant account for the marcell family and what they saw. jesse marcell brought home some of the debris to show his family . they said there were metal beams that while they had little weight could not be bent , burned or cut , so very light in terms of weight but ultra strong . the beams had what the family described as akin to egyptian heiroglyphics , that was the best way they could explain what they saw on the beams .

also there was tin foil , well what looked like some form of tin foil . they bent it , crushed it up , tried to cut it etc . no matter what they did the foil returned to its pristine condition .

the military came and took all of the above away , along with major marcell . when marcell later returned to his family he was a changed man , he told them we didnt see anything , we don know anything , they never saw the debris AND WE NEVER TALK ABOUT THIS AGAIN , in essence it never happened .

but the military had allowed a report out that they had recovered a craft or atleast its remains . marcell was ordered back to base and told he would have to do a press conference where he showed the press the debris . he walks in to a room with his superiors and the press and finds NOT THE DEBRIS on the floor but tin foil and some sticks that had nothing to do with the crash and debris he saw . the photo above depicts that moment .

the photo doesnt show it but marcell was very angry , he had been duped and lied to . naturally the military has secrets , test craft and test planes etc , and yes probably a fair percentage of ufo sightings are test craft from area 51 one such craft would have been the stealth , a black triangular plane . however that does not explain all sightings and certainly it doesnt explain what witnesses saw here .

the OFFICIAL explanation also OMITS to mention that there was a second crash site , a site found by civilians . the military in this case has changed their story over and over and there is no doubt they lied . think about it an alien craft with technologies possibly hundreds or thousands of years in advance of ours , potential futuristic weaponary or the technology within the craft to reverse engineer that technology to make such weaponary . now think about it landing in the uk , in russia , in north korea , in america , anyone think that the secret agencies and military of those governments would admit they had found such a craft and that they had such potential weaponary ? NOT A HOPE IN HELL . america had the stealth plane , the u2 plane and both were ultra top secret , if they had a crashed ufo and perhaps live aliens they would never release such info .

lets face it lol to this day the american government still wont admit that area 51 exists . i know of court cases of families of men who worked secretly at area 51 , the men died horrific deaths from what the families thought might have been radiation poisoning . they wanted the government to admit their husbands worked in area 51 and to pay compensation . these families produced photos of area 51 in court and the government still denied its existence . if you know about american secret agencies for example the cia the law protects them , its designed that way . they can issue a denial and simply tell the judge that he is delving into areas of national security . and the judge has to dismiss the case even tho he has photos of area 51 in his hands and he knows the government is lying .

i know of a freedom of information case against the cia , it relates to jfks assassination but its relevant here . in court the man requesting the information faced the cia lawyers . he requested documents that are owned by the people and that the freedom of information law says they are entitled to see . the cia still withholds much in regards jfks assassination , probably because at the very least operatives of theirs played a part in it . the cia said they were denying access to said documents , and all they had to do was say NATIONAL SECURITY , or claim that the documents contain information regarding secret operations or operatives still active . the judge sided with the cia (as he was forced to under the law ) even tho the documents were 50 plus years old . after 50 years plus any operative if still active must be a minimal of in their 70s and approaching 80 , no sensible person could or should accept that they are still active lol . so that only leaves some top secret operation , if so what are the cia still hiding 50 plus years later ? .

roswell is 71 years ago and still they lie and keep secrets . ALL BECAUSE SOME SECRET TEST PLANE OR SECRET WEATHER BALLOON CRASHED IN THE DESERT ? anyone believe that ? .

the second photo above shows man size dummies . now yes these sort of dummies were used by the military . however if you check out the witnesses at the second crash site , and atleast none nurse at the hospital and a mortician there were little people not full size . oh and they said atleast one of the little people was alive and moving , test dummies dont tend to move around as tho they are alive . by the way looking at the photo , if you stumbled across those dummies in the desert or in a field etc would they confuse you into thinking they are real humans ? .

my opinion based on witnesses etc is that there is far more to this than a weather balloon or crashed test plane . if it was either they would no longer be in use 70 years later so why lie all these years later ? .

by the way here is the same type of weather balloon that supposedly left debris strewn all over a field requiring numerous soldiers and trucks to pick up and transport



any body buy the BS from the american government ? . lastly just imagine how many americans that were so stupid and naive as to swallow the governments / military nonsense and BS whole ? . i talk to a lot of americans , you cant imagine how many wont even consider questioning their government . they say IM PATRIOTIC , they may well be but they are also stupid . i spoke to a guy who fought in vietnam , wouldnt hear a bad word about that war or his government that caused it . so i said to him EVER HEARD OF AIR AMERICA , he had to admit he did . air america was cia transporting heroin and cocaine in very large amounts to be sold in america , he could not deny this nor could he justify it . i said to him HIS OWN FELLOW SOLDIERS have said that the gulf of tonkin incident that was used to invade vietnam was a lie IT NEVER HAPPENED . the american military faked an attack on them selves in the gulf of tonkin , it never happened it was a lie , and is now acknowledged as such . this lie allowed LBJ to invade vietnam and engage in a 10 year war from 64 to to 74 . just in case there is any doubt that this was pre planned lies with LBJ in the know , the day after jfks funeral LBJ ordered data / facts and figures PROJECTIONS for a 10 year war in vietnam .
