Nuclear weapons or saving life

lately we hear in the news in the UK that the NHS is under the biggest strain it has suffered yet our goverment spends billions on Trident and millions on other Nuclear warheads it was said during the Iraq war that each missile that was been fired every few seconds cost 1million would this money not be better spent preserving life and helping the sick who need it i believe so --obviously we need weapons we are an island but do we need Trident do we need missiles could we not just have a conventional armed force rather than one geared up for nuclear war do we have to play the big boys of who has the biggest and best is it not dangerous to play those games i believe so but lets hear your thoughts
